Summer 1999

Roving Reporter: OSDA Summer Conference

The Open Systems Database Association (OSDA) Summer ‘99 conference was held on the glorious Florida Gulf Coast at Clearwater Beach, and MultiValue News’ roving reporter was on the scene. It’s a dirty job, but someone’s gotta do it...

OSDA’s Summer Conference drew to a close on June 7th with most of us lingering around the ice cream and sundae fixings at the afternoon social; a little reluctant to finally close the door on a fantastic weekend and head back to reality.

Everyone was in agreement, the Sheraton Sand Key Resort in Clearwater Beach again provided the perfect setting for our information intensive meeting. Situated on the Gulf coast of Florida, the atmosphere was relaxed and casual, providing comfortable situations and opportunities for networking with other members.

E-commerce was the hot topic of both the Trade Show and featured presentations. Many of the classes offered numerous and varied solutions for creating a web presence and integrating data from existing MV databases.

Another pleasant and encouraging note was the large number of new attendees who were drawn to the conference by the day long ‘Back to Basics’ classes, that were reintroduced as part of the regular conference offerings several years ago. This year as part of that series Marcie Gebauer Miller, of Discovery Computer Systems, presented a full two-day class on ‘A Technical Introduction to the Basic Principles of the MultiValue Database Environment’. A popular and effective instructor, it’s always a pleasure when Marcie can take time from her busy schedule to be a part of our conferences.

Again, our thanks go to all the trainers and speakers who contributed their time and energy to help make this conference such a success.
