JAC’s double touchdown on Superbowl weekend

JA Computing and Strategy 7 worked through the Superbowl weekend at Baylor College of Medicine located in Houston, Texas. The installation of the Compaq Proliant 5000, running Windows NT with jBASE, went very smoothly. This site made use of the NT Telnet daemon to drive dumb terminals. Performance increases where expected and achieved, cutting day-long processes to jobs taking less than 45 minutes. Currently this site is licensed for 46 concurrent users running under Windows NT 4.0.

Meanwhile, across the pond, the JAC UK office was installing a local government office operation at Sedgemoor District Council. Sedgemoor migrated its Revenue application from Reality to
jBASE on a Windows NT/Digital Alpha system. Again, speed improvements were quite staggering, with one weekend report now executing in less than 1 hour yet using significantly less of the CPU's total capacity. The impact means real-time reporting is now a possibility.

Although performance improvements were not the main reason for the migration, freedom was. With jBASE Client/Server and jBASE OBjEX, Sedgemoor are set to enhance their application by blending Visual Basic applications with the jBASE BASIC business rules and MultiValue data.

This migration was said to be straight forward, with all enquiries, BASIC programs and even procs running without change. Sedgemoor expects to see substantial monetary savings in the months to come.
