RedBack
rolls out
Unidata have announced the release of RedBack, a database-independent Internet
and intranet application development solution. It is claimed to offer rapid
development, reduced deployment costs, support for scalable, transactional applications
and the ability to exploit existing IT assets by accessing server-based data
and programs. Among its main features are:
- Drag and-drop form painter;
- Data-aware forms, tables and lists;
- Assistance in generating forms, queries and field validations;
- Multi-user sharing and re-use of components;
- Automatic state management for operations spanning web interactions, such
as multi-page queries;
- Immediate response to user inputs via client-side business logic;
- Native database access/update;
- Optimistic and pessimistic locking support;
- Application-level authorization and authentication;
- Ability to invoke existing programs and services;
- Open support for third-party browsers, web servers and HTML tools;
- Multiple-process architecture with automatic load balancing;
- WebShare Connections for scalable access;
- Reduced network traffic through server-side business logic;
- Server-side object cacheing;
- Thin client delivery requiring only a browser;
- Single-cource, universally accessible applications;
- Environment-independence;
- Migration path to O/R databases and distributed object computing;
- Standards-based deployment lowers costs and broadens choices.
According to the overview posted on Unidatas website, RedBack delivers
applications that are more portable, maintainable, accessible and affordable,
while offering advantages over other products in development productivity, scalability
