Sysdeco launches TransVerse

Internet connectivity and rapid application development (RAD) specialist Sysdeco has launched TransVerse, a middleware package designed to provide Internet access to both pick and SQL databases. TransVerse was developed in the UK by Coyote Consultants and is designed to enable the migration of legacy databases to both Windows and Web environments using object-oriented technology.

TransVerse consists of two modular components, TransWeb and TransBase. TransWeb permits databases to be accessed directly from HTML pages, thus allowing Pick and SQL data to be published dynamically and interactively on the Web.

TransBase manages the process of integrating the Pick and SQL data environments via a single user/programmer interface. The database access method is both familiar and efficient, providing item-based retrieval/update to the underlying database.

All of the current versions of Pick are supported, by a variety of connection options including serial, PicLan, TCP/IP, ODBC and shared DLLs for NT systems, in addition to all SQL ODBC-compliant databases.

David Cooper, director of Coyote, said: “TransVerse gives the freedom to deploy applications on either any industry standard SQL database or any Pick or Picklike system using the same application code, providing faster delivery of systems especially in the Internet/Intranet space.”

“This initiative with Coyote enhances our strategy of providing effective tools and services for the open systems marketplace,” said John McIntyre, managing director at Sysdeco Solutions.

“With the TransVerse products, Pick installations can unlock the information stored in existing legacy databases and swiftly adopt a GUI and Internet strategy.”
