GA releases mvBASE 1.2

Capitalizing on strong customer demand for its top-selling MultiValue database solution mvBASE, General Automation has introduced a new upgrade to mvBASE to provide enhanced connectivity support for networked users.

The new release offers Liberty IntegrationSoftware's ODBC suite and new telnet functionality. In addition, mvBASE now features support for databases over 30Gb for Windows NT and support for the large base of installed Windows for Workgroups 3.11 users.

mvBASE release 1.2 improves upon the functionality of release 1.0 while continuing to provide an easy migration path for traditional MultiValue applications to Windows NT and Windows 95.

"The response to mvBASE from our channel partners and users has been nothing short of fantastic," said Greg Ruff, GA vice president of marketing. "The new upgrade provides the features and functionality most requested from resellers and end users alike. With the ODBC addition and telnet connectivity to mvBASE, we've not only opened the door to MultiValue database access for networked users, but we've integrated mvBASE with the telnet-friendly Windows NT environment."

Another important feature of the new release is the ability to accommodate databases over 30Gb for Windows NT. While most MultiValue sites are less than 4Gb in capacity, the increased database size provides an avenue of expansion while letting Windows NT network users fully leverage the power of GA's MultiValue database technology. In addition, mvBASE includes built-in software security instead of hardlock security devices - ideal for notebook users running mvBASE on Windows 95.

The mvBASE server runs on an Intel 486, Pentium or PentiumPRO based system with a Windows NT Server, Windows NT Workstation or Windows 95. The wide range of supported hardware provides a growth path from laptop to a symmetric multi-processor Intel-based system offering high-availability features such as RAID. The mvBASE client runs on Windows NT Workstation, Windows 95 and Windows for Workgroups 3.11.

mvBASE is currently available through GA's worldwide netowrk of value-added resellers. The base kit includes a developer enhancement which contains the Visual Basic, C and C++ client development tools.
