General Automation pairs up with Unidata

GA to distribute System Builder, SB+, wIntegrate and Redback under new OEM agreement

General Automation has announced a new OEM agreement with Unidata, which allows them to distribute a range of Unidata products including the ever-popular SB+ 4GL, SB 5.1, wIntegrate and web-integration tool Redback.

Under the terms of this new marketing agreement, GA has licensed the Redback source code and holds exclusive rights to port and distribute the software to all MultiValue platforms except the Unidata and UniVerse RDBMSs, and the Unidata/Vmark sales channels.

“This is a new and very significant relationship between the two leading suppliers of MultiValue solutions,” said Bill Rice, GA’s executive vice president. “Unidata has been very successful at building development tools to enhance software developer productivity. By offering these critical tools to our own dealer channel and customer base, we’ve added a powerful set of integration technologies which meet the needs of a competitive industry.”

Antoon Houben, co-developer of GA’s Liberty Integration family of ODBC products and soon-to-be ‘product evangelist’ for the Unidata products, said: “Redback is instrumental in rounding out our Internet strategies and adding to the capabilities of the Liberty Web Publisher. Redback represents a compatible Web interface product with significant 4GL capabilities for the MultiValue community.”

According to Bill Rice, the exclusive distribution arrangement offers GA a “huge opportunity” to expand its dealer channels and increase the range of professional services it offers to its strong existing base of legacy application developers and users.

In addition, the GA-Unidata OEM agreement opens the door to a new migration strategy for System Builder users, as both SB 5.1 and SB+ will be certified to run on mvBase, GA’s Windows NT environment, and on mvEnterprise, GA’s Unix-based high-end on-line transaction processing system. GA has acquired distribution rights for both SB 5.1 and SB+, and wIntegrate, within its own reseller channel and customer base, and will certify the products exclusively on GA’s MultiValue database environments
