General
Automation introduces mvBASE Release 1.3 with a host of new features
General Automation is pleased to announce that mvBASE Release 1.3 will be available
soon to mvBASE customers and GA resellers. This release serves many purposes
including the following:
- improved ease of use and installation;
- improved compatibility with other database products;
- greater support for larger sites;
- improved ease of support;
- improved database availability;
- improved peripheral support.
mvBASE is certified to run on Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 95.
Release 1.3 contains the following features:
- System Transaction Logging: this feature is the ability to do mvBASE
transaction logging to another mvBASE system. These systems can be anywhere
on the network. This feature is similar to the Mentor Fast Fault Recovery
(FFR) facility. This will aid in improved database availability.
- mvTERM Enhancements: mvTERM is the virtual terminal emulator included
with mvBASE. The mvTERM enhancements for this release include copy/paste capability,
auxiliary printing capability and the ability to use the F1 and F10 function
keys. This will aid in the general use of the product.
- Improved installation: mvBASE will now use the industry-standard
installation procedure for installing Windows applications, called InstallShield.
This will make mvBASE installation even easier and improve the look of the
installation procedure.
- Support for larger sites with increased database size and more user connections:
The maximum mvBASE databse size (for Windows NT only) has been increased from
around 30Gb to approximately 2 Terabytes. Also the replacement of NETDDE/DDE
with a TCP/IP-based communication scheme will allow for a greater number of
users to be connected to mvBASE.
- Half-Inch tape drive support: With this release, mvBASE supports
a half-inch tape drive. GA can provide customers with a Windows NT tape driver
and a half-inch tape drive that will work with mvBASE on Windows NT.
- Raw printer client added: This release contains a client which allows
for printing on continuous stationery with/without form feeds and output of
all characters without interpreting or filtering them out. It offers behaviour
almost identical to the traditional MultiValue prints but on networked printers.
- Additional features: This release includes other features such as
a system-wide logon proc and delayed disconnect capability.
