GA users gain dramatic improvements in business processes with Liberty/ODBC

GA has announced that two notable MultiValue users implemented its Liberty/ODBC solution to streamline business processes and provide increased access to information. The Liberty/ODBC driver, which provides a bridge between ODBC-compliant Windows applications and MultiValue databases, is developed and distributed by Liberty Integration Software, a wholly owned subsidiary of GA.

Prompted by the need to integrate with new technologies, while maintaining their investment in their current system, NuAir Manufacturing and Caspers Company implemented the Liberty/ODBC suite to improve efficiency, integrate client/server processes with their MultiValue database and carefully manage rapid corporate growrth. GA business partner Custom Business Systems Inc in Tampa, Florida, supports both customers.

Caspers Company: a need to increase productivity

With 40 McDonalds restaurant franchises to manage and automate, Caspers Company has been running its MIS operations on a GA platform for the last eight years. The Tampa-based company upgraded to GA's Windows NT environment, mvBASE, a little over a year ago and uses MultiValue application software and support from GA reseller, CBSI.

According to CBSI, each McDonalds franchise has its own McDonalds-approved point of sale system that collects restaurant data according to software written by the McDonalds corporation. The individual restaurants uphold and send this data to a Caspers-operated bulletin board where, with the Liberty/ODBC product, the data will be downloaded and posted to the accounting and sales records on the GA system at Caspers.

"We are thrilled with the potential of the Lilberty/ODBC product as it will allow us to take advantage of the latest Windows tools to increase productivity and improve our business decisions," said Ed Lee, executive vice president with Caspers Company.

NuAir Manufacturing Company: maintaining a competitive advantage

A leading window manufacturer for 50 years in Tampa, Florida, NuAir Manufacturing Company has worked with CBSI for 17 years in the development and support of its MultiValue-based MIS environment. Today, NuAir uses CBSI software written for GA's Windows NT database environment, mvBASE, which supports 112 users on GA's mvES600i Pentium Pro processor.

To help maintain a competitive advantage in its market, NuAir implemented the Liberty/ODBC driver to integrate Microsoft Windows applications with its mvBASE database. "The Liberty product has helped us move into the modern world of graphics and put a lot of excitement back into the MultiValue database," commented Ray Lagor, president of CBSI and also the MIS director for NuAir. According to Lagor, NuAir executives will initially use the Liberty product to access sales data from its MultiValue database within an Excel spreadsheet. The spreadsheet will be updated every 10 minutes to provide a graphical, real-time analysis of its sales process.

"Liberty/ODBC provides the perfect backbone to help us make information more accessible and to synchronize our core business process to ultimately improve synergy and efficiency throughout the corporation," Lagor continued.

The Liberty/ODBC driver

Liberty/ODBC Driver is a level 1-plus compliant ODBC driver for MultiValue databases, including GA environments, that uses a technology standard developed by the SQL Access Group. Microsoft implemented the first implementation of this standard, called ODBC (Open Database Connectivity). ODBC is both an API and SQL standard that allows ODBC-compliant Windows applications to access other ODBC-compliant applications. The Liberty/ODBC Driver provides a bridge between the hundreds of ODBC-compliant Windows applications and MultiValue databases.
