General Automation announces new product launch of mv.ENTERPRISE 5.0

The only true MultiValue database environment designed for fault tolerant enterprise installations will be implemented on UnixWare 7.1 and AIX 4.3. This new release will be launched as mv.ENTERPRISE 5.0 or MV5 for short. Mature, tested and lightning fast, mv.ENTERPRISE is now running in many enterprise sites supporting hundreds—even thousands of users. Sites like 24 Hour Fitness, Damark International, Lazydays RV Center, Matol Botanical International, Ltd., Relco Corporation and many others have adopted mv.ENTERPRISE.

mv.ENTERPRISE is very unique. It has over ten years of engineering design, specifically targeted toward the most robust, stable and self-maintaining MultiValue database on the market. Installed first in hundreds of 24x7 fault tolerant Sequoia installations, mv.ENTERPRISE 5.0 will be implemented on AIX 4.3 and UnixWare 7.1 for Intel. mv.ENTERPRISE 5.0 will feature the new dynamic file resizing capability along with integrating the capabilities of AIX 4.3 and UnixWare 7.1

With the introduction of the Dynamic File System it is no longer necessary to set reallocation parameters and perform a full save/restore cycle to manage file size or make the system run efficiently. The Database Management System will automatically control the size of files dynamically, transparent to applications and users. Major advantages therefore are a dramatic reduction in the administrative cost of database management, elimination of lost performance and reliability due to poor file sizing, and reduction of the system downtime associated with configuration changes and save/restore cycles caused by these efficiency concerns.

mv.ENTERPRISE was designed to maximise system up time and includes a set of support utilities which track aborts and other system events. Data gathered by these tools allow field problems to be resolved quickly and reliably. This information has also been used to gain insight into how applications use the system. This knowledge has been applied to the mvEnterprise design to achieve outstanding reliability and performance in real world applications. Transaction Logging provides a direct means to resolve event failure in case of system outage. Transactions may be written to tape and/or to a hot stand-by machine via an Ethernet connection. mvEnterprise transaction logging is optimised for high volume systems and can handle instantaneous data influx rates in the 2 GB/hour range.

MV5 and AIX 4.3 for PowerPC Bull Systems

AIX version 4.3 delivers many exciting features and enhancements. AIX 4.3 supports both 32-bit and 64-bit applications. Many applications will experience major capacity and performance benefits with extended addressing and enhanced I/O support. Also included is integration of Internet technology including the popular Java Development Kit. New Bull Escala servers were designed from the ground up with AIX 4.3 in mind.

MV5 and UnixWare 7.1 for Intel Servers

UnixWare 7.1 is new. The award winning O/S from SCO is now considered the only enterprise O/S available for Intel platforms. But it is much more than this. Supported by leading enterprise ISVs, and backed by more enterprise hardware manufacturers than any other server environment, UnixWare 7 is the standard for the next generation UNIX systems.

UnixWare 7.1 features:

mv.ENTERPRISE 5.0 running on AIX 4.3 or UnixWare 7.1 represents a quantum leap in high end database technology. mv.ENTERPRISE 5.0 contains many conversion friendly features making it an easy application move from legacy systems like McDonnell Douglas, Ultimate and ADDS.

mv.ENTERPRISE 5.0 is scheduled for full production release in mid-summer. An extensive marketing and migrationary program, along with a full white paper, will launch the release.
