Shipping giant P&O Ports has called on computer solutions specialists Capitol Business Services once more to install their UNITRACK-P port control system into New Zealand’s major port, Auckland.
The installation represents Capitol’s second venture into New Zealand, with P&O also running UNITRACK-P in Tauranga, the country’s principal export port. Capitol have been working closely with P&O since 1996 and the group already has Capitol systems in use in many of its Australian operations.
UNITRACK-P gives P&O enhanced control over tracking and monitoring or containers, motor vehicles, bulk and general cargoes. The technology includes elements such as gate automation, barcode interface and EDI, which is paramount to P&O operations. Throughout Australasia the group has developed an Electronic Commerce Centre which centralises all EDI operations for its container terminals and bulk and general ports. The P&O Ports Wide Area Network, POPNET, forms the backbone of operations in Australasia, bringing all the information systems together.
Greg Gerstl, Capitol’s Sales Manager in Australia, commented: “We’re delighted to further strengthen our relationship with P&O. This is generally a very exciting time for Capitol, with more and more interest being shown in our systems and expertise.”
Earlier this year Capitol installed UNITRACK-P into P&O’s Melbourne operation and have also recently developed a new crane-yard solution, UNITRACK-C, to accompany a Hong Kong installation by Australian crane supplier Electruck.
