Free TransSys evaluations available from SOS

Solutions specialists SOS Limited have announced that they are now shipping free evaluation copies of the TransSys user environment. The evaluation consists of a fully-functional time-limited copy of TransSys plus a demo application, and is available for all MultiValue platforms.

TransSys is a multi-functional menu-based user shell that can be wrapped around existing applications to provide a consistent, friendly, structured interface to every aspect of your MultiValue system. It provides access-control and security features, system management utilities, database interrogation and development tools, and has something to offer for every level of user.

Ordinary users can configure the presentation of the menus and the screen colours. More advanced users or system administrators can use the built-in utilities which front-end dictionary maintenance, spooler management and print queues. They can produce their own listings with the report writer, perform backup and restore, or apply security and access controls. For developers there is even a 4GL toolbox that includes a full-screen source editor with context-sensitive colour coding of syntax and structure, a screen painter, subroutine library and Jackson Structured Programming tools.

“TransSys has something to offer everyone, no matter what MultiValue platform they use, but it doesn’t mean a re-write of your existing systems,” said Tony Coutts, software manager of SOS Limited.

“Implementation can be as minimalist or as in-depth as you want, from a simple user shell to a full-on development environment that allows you to grow and update your existing legacy applications to improve functionality, usability and maintainability.”

He added: “Among the features providing the greatest assistance to TransSys users are its abilities to cruise from a program entry on a menu down through the source code, procs, includes and subroutines, without having to use TCL or even know where the program is cataloged, as well as import/export facilities for most popular terminal emulators. Users also appreciate the ability to task-switch or jump directly to a particular program without having to follow a rigid menu hierarchy.”
