- Gossip abounds that Pick Systems is the subject of a buy-out by a Californian
“technology investor”. According to the rumour-mill, a letter of intent has
been signed and a 60-day cooling-off period is under way. No official statements
have been issued.
- Prospectus IT Recruitment are alive and well, contrary to rumours in the
industry brought about by an item in a recent edition of MultiValue News.
Managing Director Elkie Holland has asked us to make it clear that she is
still very much in charge and has no plans to sell or merge the business.
Her recent low profile has been due to a change in her personal circumstances,
unrelated to the functioning of the business.

- MDIS Group plc has fought off stiff competition, including ICL and Sanderson,
to win a £15m managed IT services contract from Reading Borough Council. The
comprehensive contract includes the provision of an on-site helpdesk, desktop
support for around 1,800 PCs and future Prince 2 project work.
Roger Wild, Reading’s IT director, commented: “MDIS were the only supplier
to fully meet our brief which also demanded that our managed service should
include provision of all service management, support across all our sites
within the borough, in tune with the council’s ‘best value’ initiatives in
the move to e-government.”
- Carnation Software have added standard scrollback capabilities to their
three emulation programs MacToPic Plus, MacWise and SBMac, allowing users
to scroll back through up to 20 pages of data from the host computer, print
it, or copy it to the clipboard. This feature is available in version 9.0
of MacToPic Plus, and version 4.0 of MacWise and SBMac.
- Whitbread Beer’s Samson project has won the prestigious Micrologica Premier
Project Award, with a little help from Cognos, Informix and MDIS.
- MultiValue training specialist JES & Associates is changing it’s name -
to just JES. They have also recently been appointed a certified training affiliate
of LinuxCare University and will now be able to provide the full range of
LinuxCare University courses through its new subsidiary, LinuxLearning.com.
- APT Solutions have announced a 30-user sale of their STRATUM software to
one of the country’s leading providers of healthcare plans.
- Sanderson continues its policy of growth by acquisition with the recent
acquisition of local government software specialists Creative Microsystems,
Inc of Dayton, Ohio for £1.5 million, and the £0.9 million purchase of the
local government systems division of Genasys LGS Pty Ltd, of Sydney, Australia.
- Clipper Navigation, who operate between Seattle and Victoria, British Columbia,
have placed an order for res2000 from UK travel software specialists Travellog.
The system will handle the entire Clipper operation including the tour operations
requirements.
- Software house Vale International Limited have recently been presented with
an “Investors in People” award. Vale have been using the Investors in People
approach for the last three years, in which time the company has grown by
100%.
Proving that quality service is never far from their minds, Vale have also
been awarded the prestigious BS/EN/ISO 9001 Quality Certificate.
- Sanderson has won an order worth in excess of £1 million to install their
TALLYMAN arrears system at The Student Loans Company Ltd. Initially this will
be a 200-user system which will grow to 600 concurrent users. It will run
on a Unix platform.
This system will assist the Student Loans Company to control the 1.4 million
borrowers with loans in repayment. It will replace their existing CACS Plus
V 6.0.
