D3 does the business for BVCD

Orders for books, videos or CDs placed through publications or the Internet can now be turned around in hours, not days.

Books, Videos and CDs Direct (BVCD), a fulfilment house for national newspaper groups, magazines and radio stations, is using Pick’s D3 database, together with IBM’s Netfinity server, to speed up the processing of customer orders. Aries Business Systems is providing the back office software.

The new system has improved the turnaround of requests and is helping BVCD keep up with rapid growth in demand. At peak times, BVCD has a daily sales rate of between 10,000 and 20,000 orders. At one point, the largest invoice run of 36,000 was processed in half a day.

The Netfinity/D3 solution allows users to store large amounts of data and rapidly retrieve it in any form required. It resulted in a reduction of delivery processes from two days to 40 minutes.

“Due to rapid growth, we needed to identify partners and technology that could keep up with the rate of demand,” said George Gavriil, IT director at BVCD. “The Pick environment was chosen as it allows us to handle high volumes of orders quickly and efficiently. This, together with Netfinity and Aries’ software, has ultimately helped us grow our business and keep customers very happy.”

“You can sell all you like, but poor service will lose you as many customers as you win. It’s refreshing to identify a company that has got its back office distribution solution right,” said Bruce Leigh, managing director at Aries Business Systems. “BVCD is a highly successful company and this is, in part, due to its forward-thinking in terms of IT.”

“Aries has been using Pick software as a development programme for over twelve years now,” said Nigel Town, UK country manager at Pick Systems.

“This agreement shows how the flexibility and effectiveness of the software coupled with top-notch developers can lead to great business benefits.”
