Raining Data ups the ante with database licence price reductions accross the board, and FlashCONNECT bundled with D³ v7.2

Raining Data has announced in a marketing bulletin that it intends to eliminate differential pricing on database server licences.

With effect from 1st July 2001, all currently-shipping database products will sell at £300.00 for the server licence, and the same for each additional user. This covers D3 Server (NT, Win2000, Unix, Linux), D3 NT/Win95/98 7.1 and below, mvBASE and mvENTERPRISE. The only exception is D3 ProPlus, which has no server component and will retail at £350.00 per user licence.

The marketing bulletin states that these price reductions are in response to feedback from their customers. Shortly after acquiring GA’s database products, Raining Data was roundly criticised in many quarters for changing the pricing structure of mvBASE to match the old D3 pricing, which resulted in mvBASE users having to pay more than double what they were accustomed to for new licences. These reductions not only redress that, they also make D3 fiercely competitive with other MVDBMS flavours such as U2.

In addition, customers purchasing a D3 v7.2 server licence after 1st July will now receive FlashCONNECT bundled with it, at no additional charge. FlashCONNECT allows FlashBASIC programmers to quickly enable programs to use HTML and HTML extensions using a simple Application Programming Interface (API) to port D3 application code and data to the web.

Activation of the FlashCONNECT licence must still be performed separately from the main D3 activation, and an annual maintenance agreement, which includes technical support and limited upgrade protection,is available at a list price of £200 per annum, or on a per-incident basis.

Taken as a whole, this news shows Raining Data are responding well to feedback from the user base and the aggressive new pricing may also help them to woo U2 users uncertain about their future under IBM.
