Autumn 2001

New range of courses from jBASE

jBASE have recently launched two new courses adding to their ever growing portfolio of training available worldwide.

New Courses

The first, advanced jBASE web builder (jWB), is intended to build on the knowledge gained in the Introductory jWB course, or act as an entry point for an experienced web developer to learn more about RAD for the web.

The course runs for three days standalone, or can be run back-to-back with the existing introductory course in a week. It covers the architecture of jWB, and how to extend the jWB environment. It also includes details on how to use the more advanced features of jWB including email and scheduling, and integrating with other applications. It also goes into deployment, both operationally, and strategically.

The second course is a jWB administrators’ course which is intended for anyone involved in web builder administration, or anyone who wants a thorough overview of the product. The course runs for one day, and covers architecture, scheduling and deployment.

Planned Courses

Core product:

With jBASE release 4 looming on the horizon, the training department are hard at work putting the finishing touches to a training course designed to introduce the many exciting new features. The course will cover subjects like jExplorer, the new GUI configuration tool and the new crash-proof j5 file system. Migration will be covered in-depth, as will multi-threading. An advanced programming course is planned which will cover code profiling tools, debugging and optimising code, embedded SQL, calling C programs and transaction boundaries.

Mainstream technologies:

XML is a technology that is often in the headlines and is ideally suited to the multi-value data structure. A course detailing XML support and toolkits available in jBASE is under construction. With more and more Java tools becoming available in jBASE, a Java programming course is planned, and a complementary Java ObjEX course.

DBMS:

A whole new course covering high availability is being developed covering hot standby, data replication, transaction journaling, jRFS (distributed files), disk striping and software and hardware mrroring. One of the most popular features of jBASE is its database independence, and a new course is under development covering the jEDI concept and the associated jEDI Development kit.

E-Learning:

It’s not just traditional training courses that are being developed, jBASE are actively developing a whole suite of e-Learning courses covering the entire spectrum of jBASE products. These training materials will be available from the jBASE web site which means that a training course will be available no matter where you are. Because you choose when you study the course material, you can work in your own time at your own pace. Initially, two courses are planned before the end of the year. The first is an introduction to jBASE web builder and the second is multi-value fundamentals.
